I interned at American Gateways to serve as a legal assistant. I offered translation and interpretation services from Amharic or Tigrigna to English.
I interned at the non-profit, GlobalAustin as an intern for a semester for database work, social media management, and sending out weekly newsletters. Later on, I was promoted as a Senior intern to supervise and train two new interns. I gained a course credit for my global studies major through GLST-4352-01
SBE was cancelled this year due to the pandemic but I enjoyed meeting up with my group in the name of service!
I believe that my experiences and involvement have deepen my interest of volunteering and giving back to my community. I believe BIG EVENT last year as a participant was such a successful community full of diverse positive students that came together in the purpose of humble intentions. I found the service project extremely likable because of the positive environment that I saw and felt during early in the morning but also when each of our groups' projects were over. I also felt that I was a part of something bigger than what I registered as a volunteer for. I interacted with students of different classes and different majors that I have made some friends on the Hilltop because of this event.
I am so happy to have been a part of The BIG Event for the third time. Although we could not have an in-person BIG Event service day this year, it was rewarding experience to work alongside amazing student leaders and advisors as a the Registration subcommittee throughout the semester.
As a freshman in St. Ed's, I volunteered with the BIG Event community to pursue my passion for the purpose of a good cause. By taking part in the annual service opportunity and make a change in others' lives, I was able to hone my skills as a volunteer with my peers.
